Since their debut in 2008, Malaysia’s An Honest Mistake have built a reputation as one of the country’s most enduring pop-punk and alternative rock bands. Led by radio DJ, podcaster, organizer, lecturer, and musician Darren Teh, the current lineup features Tomas Tam, Sonny Wan, Justin Chiew, and returning co-lead vocalist Sheryl Goh. Formerly signed to Universal Music Malaysia, the band has released five albums and toured extensively across Asia, including Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, India, Korea, Taiwan, and the Philippines. Their evolving sound blends infectious pop-rock hooks, heartfelt ballads, acoustic moments, and energetic easycore influences. Over the years, An Honest Mistake has shared stages with international acts such as Hoobastank, Black Eyed Peas, Boys Like Girls, Mayday Parade, Saosin, Hawthorne Heights, Neck Deep, Motion City Soundtrack, and Against The Current. With new music continually on the horizon, An Honest Mistake remains a dynamic force in the Malaysian music scene, showing no signs of slowing down.
Malaysia's An Honest Mistake has been nothing short of impressive ever since their debut in 2008.
The band, headed up by radio DJ, podcaster, organizer, lecturer, and musician, Darren Teh (rhythm guitar), may have seen quite a number of personnel changes ever since their inception, but their penchant for creating catchy earworms has remained the same - in fact, it's evolved. Completing the lineup are Tomas Tam (lead guitar), Sonny Wan (bass) Justin Chiew (drums) and the return of co-lead vocalist, Sheryl Goh. The band was previously (2016 - 2018) a part of major label, Universal Music Malaysia.
And no wonder. After five albums, countless tours including several trips to Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, India, Korea, Taiwan and the Philippines, the band has matured to create a multi-faceted sound that can range from summery pop tunes to emotional ballads, and the odd pulse-pounding easycore song or two.
They've shared the stage with renowned international acts like Hoobastank, Black Eyed Peas, Boys Like Girls, Mayday Parade, Saosin, Hawthorne Heights, Neck Deep, Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!, Motion City Soundtrack, and Against The Current to name a few, and the band shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.
With more material on the way that's sure to reflect their ability to go between full-on pop rock, relaxed acoustic music, and heavy hardcore - influenced tunes, it's a mistake not to catch the lads of An Honest Mistake whenever they're in a town near you.
